Summer Once Again is the title of the first episode of The Goes Wrong Show's second series which was broadcast on BBC One on 27 September 2021.
Summary[]
A coup in the ranks means that Robert is in charge of this week's show, and he is not going to accept the usual shambolic standards as they present a Downton-esque family saga.
Full Plot[]
After the failed performance of "The Nativity", the cast mutinies against Chris and lets Robert direct their next play, Summer Once Again, with Robert insisting everything will go perfectly.
In the opening scene Edward (Denis) and his sister (Vanessa) are sat around a table awaiting the arrival of Roger (Robert) who is her son. Miss Margaret (Sandra) comes out the door and Jacob (Max) compliments her on her appearance. Roger (Robert) arrives from war in a fake car, he spots the gardener ("manure boy") Gavroche (Chris) and insults him. Roger sits down and asks where Susan (his fiancee) is. The stage opens to reveal Doctor Smith (Jonathan) but it breaks down and Robert announces they will redo the scene. The scene goes similarly, but with more mistakes - some caused by not restoring the set to its original condition. At the same point Robert loses it and the play is repeated again, with even more mistakes! At the end of this third attempt at the first scene, Robert realises there's not enough time left to perform the whole play and so cuts the second scene, rushes the third, and then gives a synopsis of the rest of the play: -
Susan died whilst Roger was away, During a game of chess between Jacob (Max) and Roger (Robert), which Jacob wins, Jacob reveals that he and Susan had an affair while Roger was away, Jacob fancies Miss Margaret (Sandra), Edward dies, Roger (Robert) and Gavroche (Chris) become friends, Gavroche dies, Margaret (Sandra) and Roger (Robert) fall in love and have a baby son together, Margaret and her baby are sent away in shame, 20 years later Roger (Robert) and his son (Jonathan again) reconnect, Son dies, Roger goes on a religious pilgrimage to Jerusalem where he meets a wise priest (Jonathan yet again) , Roger's mother (Vanessa) dies, Jacob (Max) dies, Mrs Wimblegate (Annie) loved Jacob the whole time, Roger gets Typhoid and dies.
The episode ends with a few minutes left to spare, so Robert opens the floor for questions. Chris pointedly asks the first question: "How many mistakes was that, Robert?" Robert, noticing the rest of the cast glaring at him, decides they have enough time to do the Doctor Smith scenes. But Jonathan only manages to make his entrance before Robert declares they are out of time.
