Trevor Watson is the Cornley Drama Society's lighting and sound operator, and later the stage manager. He joined the society for extra credit on his electronics module in order to pass his degree. Despite being grievously injured during the run of The Murder at Haversham Manor, he stayed on to do backstage for the society's later productions. By Peter Pan, he had taken over Annie's job as Stage Manager.

Personality[]

Trevor is a serious man who does his job relatively well, but can sometimes miss a cue or get trapped on stage trying to fix a problem. He rarely smiles, and often complains about the CDS despite being very committed to them. As one of the few members trying to make everything go right for the society backstage, he often has to run around and do a variety of things, making him frustrated and also close to the edge of a breakdown.

As stage manager, his job involves controlling the sound effects and lighting. He should never be seen by the audience but, this being Cornley, his job also often involves coming on stage whilst the production is still running to fix the set (or rescue actors from it when it turns carnivorous), extinguish conflagrations, or replace missing props (and sometimes - unwillingly - replacing missing actors). He is also responsible for giving actors their cues and prompts, but is often distracted and has lost his place, causing the actor requiring a prompt to deliver such lines as "I don't know what page we're on" or "This set is a death trap". In "The Most Lamentable" he appears as a non-speaking minor character in period costume (whose codpiece suffers a "wardrobe malfunction"), but he still carries out his stage manager duties such as sourcing a replacement for a broken bottle. He likes to think of the theatre as 'his stage', and has come to blows with other members of organizations such as the BBC over this.

He doesn't have much patience, and is blunt when talking about what he thinks, but as much as he talks badly about the CDS, he's very loyal to them.

Trevor's brief appearance standing in as Florence in "Haversham Manor" when both Sandra and Annie were incapacitated is the only known instance of a male member of CDS playing the part of a woman.

Relationships[]

Chris Bean[]

Trevor and Chris have known each other for a good amount of time, meeting first in university. In The Goes Wrong Show, their on screen relationship is often rocky. During season two, they are frequently seen bickering, such as in the messages left on the set during The Nativity. It can be inferred that Chris often asks Trevor to do work that is outside of his actual job description, such as building and painting the set, which is a source of antagonism for both of them. Despite this, Trevor remains committed to Cornley and does his best to keep shows running.

Max Bennett[]

Max hypes him up on stage during The Murder At Haversham Manor when he plays opposite him as a stand-in Florence Colleymoore. They seem to get along well.

Annie Twilloil[]

They both started out as part of the backstage crew for the society, and have been shown together in several promotional shots. They seem to be friends, with Trevor being nicer to her than most of the other cast members.

Robert Grove[]

Robert's opinion of Trevor seems to be that of an entitled actor that looks down on the crew as "lesser" members of the theater. Robert expects Trevor to do his job and feed him his lines when he forgets, which he does with varying levels of effectiveness. Trevor is sometimes forced to mitigate Robert's choices as part of his job (see Trevor's attempts to keep the sherry out of a very drunk Robert's hands during The Spirit of Christmas), creating yet more reasons for Robert to become frustrated with him. However, Trevor seems to be uncomfortable with Chris insulting Robert during Dennis' birthday party, despite not saying anything about it.

Trivia[]

  • Trevor had a dog called Winston, which his uncle stole from someone else's garden for use in The Murder at Haversham Manor, however the dog soon ran away
  • Trevor has been to court on at least one occasion, it is implied that this is due to his frequent breaking and entering which he disguises as a "fishing holiday"
  • When played by female understudies, Trevor is called Tessa, during The Play That Goes Wrong, she wore a white chequered shirt wrapped around her waist, during Peter Pan Goes Wrong, she appears a lot more like Trevor, but with the handkerchief on the other hand
